I am going to begin by telling you the equipment I am using and how I have it hooked up currently and then ask you guys what you thing I should do. Now that you know how I have it hooked up let me tell you this: The sound issues that I am having mainly occur when I have the sub hooked up. If I bypass the sub and connect the DDJ-S1 directly to the mixer the popping and humming in the speaker is less likely to occur however it still does occur. I have done research on the DDJ-S1 and it seams to be a ground loop issue or something but is there another way I should hook this up like all the powered stuff 1st or all of the powered stuff last. What would you do or what should I do? Dave Daschofsky ,
I have a kit of JBL sisat speakers. 5 speakers + subwoofer. My receiver is not working well. I need to know the specifications of the mentioned speakers and wich from nowdays receivers is more appropiate for those speakers. I an looking a receiver in a range of $ of receiver price. how do (if i can) hook up a JBL SCSS.
Every time I fire up my surround sound system and the subwoofer gets a signal, it makes this awful sound grrrrrippp. It runs fine after that initial problem, but it is so annoying. I’ve switched the phase setting as well as the crossover frequency without any change to the problem. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks for any ideas. The sub is in standby when not receiving a signal for a while. When it senses a signal, it turns on an the noise you hear is similar to what you’d hear if you attached a speaker to an amplifier while active.
Don’t know if it’s a problem, other than the irritation I have had a JBL for about 4-years and it still works though it’s been doing the same thing since day one.

The cone of the speaker and the mechanical parts that make it move may break under the stress. Surprisingly, too little power can also damage your subwoofer — in fact, it’s actually more common than damage caused by overpowering. When the volume is turned up and the amp doesn’t have enough power, the signal becomes distorted, or “clipped. You don’t have to match speaker and amp wattages exactly.
An amp with a higher output than the speaker’s rating won’t necessarily damage the speaker — just turn the amp down a bit if you hear distortion from the sub and don’t run the speaker at extremely loud volumes for lengthy periods. Likewise, you’ll be OK with a lower powered amp if you keep the volume down and don’t feed a distorted signal to the sub you will send the amp into clipping Clipping Clipping occurs when an amplifier is asked to deliver more current to a speaker than the amp is capable of doing.
When an amplifier clips, it literally cuts off the tops and bottoms of the musical waveforms that it’s trying to reproduce, thus the term. This introduces a huge amount of distortion into the output signal. Clipping can be heard as a crunching sound on musical peaks. Set the input sensitivity controls of your amplifier to their minimum level counter clockwise. Put in a CD and turn the receiver’s volume control up you might have to raise the amp’s gain just a bit to hear the music.
When you hear distortion, stop. Turn the volume down until it disappears. As much signal as possible is passing from the receiver to the amp.
